- Authors
Javadi, Mahmoud
- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on democracy and offers potential solutions to address the challenges it presents. The author highlights the misuse of AI in election campaigns and the potential for it to undermine democratic principles. They emphasize the need for a deeper understanding of democracy and the political dimension of technology to address these issues. The article also explores the ethical and political concerns surrounding AI surveillance and its potential to infringe upon individual liberties. The author proposes the concept of "democratic AI" and advocates for embedding ethical and political considerations in the design process. They discuss strategies such as institutional reforms, regulatory frameworks, and global governance mechanisms to fortify democracy in the face of AI-related challenges. However, the article is criticized for not adequately addressing systemic inequalities and power dynamics within society, and for potentially silencing marginalized communities affected by AI-driven discrimination and surveillance. Overall, the article provides a timely examination of the impact of AI on democracy and encourages readers to critically engage with these challenges to promote a more inclusive and resilient democratic future.
