- Title
Byron Spooner.
- Abstract
This article from the Brooklyn Rail recounts the author's experience accompanying a friend, Neeli, to a DMV hearing. Neeli's ability to drive safely was being questioned due to his medical condition, and the author was there as a character witness. The hearing took place in a nondescript office with a clerk who showed little interest in the author's position as the Head of the San Francisco Library or their knowledge of prominent poets. Neeli eventually told his story, which involved a journey and a minor car accident, and the clerk reassured him that the accident could have happened to anyone. The author, Byron Spooner, is a retired Literary Director of the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library and has written for various publications.
