An essay is presented on art historian Aby Warburg, focusing on his performance paradigm "Nympha," which is based on still images of women's figures in movement. Warburg's pathos formula is described, and "Nympha" is discussed in terms of the theater. Special attention is paid to Warburg's unfinished "Mnemosyne" project and his work is related to performance studies.
