- Abstract
The article titled "Clarifying the Relationship Between Physical Injuries and Risk for Suicide Attempt in a Swedish National Sample" provides valuable insights into the association between physical injuries and the risk of suicide attempt. However, there are certain points that could enhance the clarity of the readers. The methodology of the study, which involved investigating the relationship between 10 different types of injuries and the risk for suicide attempt in a large Swedish birth cohort for a follow-up of more than 40 years, is commendable. However, there are limitations in the study, such as the inclusion of self-harm of unknown intent, limited generalizability due to data solely obtained from the hospital discharge registry, and the lack of information on psychiatric diagnoses and medication use. The study emphasizes the need for cautious interpretation of the findings and suggests avenues for future research to deepen our understanding of the complex relationship between physical injuries and suicide risk.
