- Abstract
The May 2024 issue of Pediatric Anesthesia features a variety of studies and reviews on different topics. These include a systematic review on the severity of various surgical conditions, a study on the use of dexmedetomidine for procedural sedation, and an investigation into the effects of bivalirudin on coagulation in neonates. Other articles discuss the implementation of an enhanced recovery after surgery pathway for pectus bar insertion, a comparison of gastric emptying time in breast-fed and formula-fed infants, and the use of perioperative methadone for posterior spinal fusion in adolescents. Additionally, there are studies on neonatal endotracheal intubation, anesthesia without intravenous fluid therapy in children, and the prevention of junctional ectopic tachycardia after pediatric cardiac surgery. The issue also highlights the impact of dietary ketosis on volatile anesthesia toxicity in patients with Leigh syndrome.
