- Authors
Bandlien, Bjørn
- Abstract
The article discusses the way in which royal power was exercised in part through the hegemonic control of cultural memory in medieval Scandinavia, with focus given to the regime of Norwegian King Sverrir Sigurðsson in the late 12th century and its conflict with King Magnús Erlingsson. The author examines the way in which Sverrir is positively portrayed in the "Sverris saga," particularly in comparisons drawn between the king and Saint Óláfr.
