- Abstract
The article presents a study that determines whether the bar of Brigham Young University (BYU) students for granting credit and exemption from four first-year composition (FYC) should be raised in Utah. The study revealed that 60% of Advanced Placement (AP) students copped out of the composition requirement on their freshman year despite the advise of the university recommending them to enroll. The remaining AP students preferred to enter in the offerings of advanced freshman composition. Among students not granted AP English credit by the university at entrance, almost 70% enrolled in English 115, 20% entered in honors or advanced courses and the rest postponed to meet the requirement.
