Guideline on Appropriate Use of Local Anesthesia for Pediatric Dental Patients.
- Abstract
The article reviews the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's (AAPD) guidelines on the the appropriate use of local anesthesia on young dental patients. The prevention of pain during dental procedures is important to the development of trust between patient and dentist and can help to reduce fears and anxieties while promoting positive dental attitudes. The author discusses the use of topical anesthetics as well as the standards for the selection of needles and syringes used in injected local anesthetics.
