- Abstract
The article offers information on the application of Resistance Gene Analogues (RGA) in the making for disease resistance associated with isolation and characterization sequence. According to the conducted tests, isolated R-gene extends potential in breeding for disease resistance through marker-assisted selection, either as closely linked or as perfect makers. Moreover some studies regarding the steps of identifying resistance is presented including sugarcane clone US01-11589, identified as resistant to yellow leaf caused by sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV). In addition, the use of degenerate primers for isolating novel sugarcane RGA and kinase gene analogues is useful method to evaluate the role of these genes in disease resistance.
