- Abstract
In a society marked by constant, rapid and complex change, there is a need to cultivate in human beings not only intellectual or cognitive skills, but also the so-called socioemotional competences, as a fundamental aspect of the constitution of the being. The importance of developing socio-emotional competences with a curricular component in the elementary school II matrix, allocating a specific workload, with the aim of developing autonomy, getting to know oneself, knowing how to relate to others, building goals and persisting in achieving them, making choices, creating and dealing with differences in order to solve problems in one's daily life and existence. The aim of this article is to analyze the role of socio-emotional competences in the teaching and learning process. The problem is: How can socio-emotional skills contribute to students' emotional and intellectual autonomy? In this process, the teacher is fundamental as a mediator in the teaching and learning process, demonstrating solid training to help students control their emotions and encourage learning and socialization.
