- Abstract
Although the persecution of Christians has become a global phenomenon in the 21st century and in some places there is talk of the greatest persecution of Christians of all time, the media rarely report on it. In order to gain a deeper insight into how the topic of the persecution of Christians is dealt with in print and online editorial offices in Germany – and the reasons for this – seven guided interviews were conducted with journalists from “Die Zeit”, “Die Welt”, the “Kölner-Stadtanzeiger” and the Catholic “Tagespost”. The results show deficits in reporting due to, among other things, topic relevance, difficulties in obtaining information, exploitation by right-wing populist movements and individual factors of the journalists.
