- Authors
Fisher, Laura R.
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of two works by Jewish writers that employ the idea of American immigrant settlement houses, the one-act play "The Benefactors of the East Side (Di vohlteter fun der ist sayd)" by Jacob Gordin, and the social reform memoir "The House on Henry Street" by Lillian Wald. The author discusses Russian Jewish intellectuals in New York City at the turn of the twentieth century, cultural assimilation, and Jewish philanthropists.
