- Title
Archives for secondary analysis of sample survey data: an early inquiry into the prospects for Western Europe.
- Authors
Rokkan, Stein
- Abstract
In the summer of 1955, the Ford Foundation commissioned an inquiry into the possibilities and problems of secondary analysis of data from independently organized sample surveys. The results of the inquiry were summarized in 1957 in a report issued by the School of Library Services at Columbia University1. One part of this report dealt specifically with the prospects for cross-national survey analysis and discussed the possibility of establishing one or more repositories and analysis centres in Western Europe. To help gain perspective on subsequent developments in Europe and the United States, this article gives a series of extracts and summaries of points in the original report. Footnotes referring to later developments have been added.
