- Abstract
This research seeks to reveal the prevalence of social networking addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression among university students in light of the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the ability of these psychological disorders to predict social networking addiction. It also answers the question whether social networking addiction differs according to gender and specialization. To achieve the aim of this study, questionnaires were applied to a sample of 289 university students from two universities in northwestern Syria. The results of the research show that males and those with scientific specializations are more addicted to social networking sites. It was also found that the prevalence of addiction reached 32.2 %, anxiety 37.7 %, depression 36.7 %, and posttraumatic stress disorder 43.3 %. Anxiety predicted 5 % and depression 11 % explained social media addiction, while PTSD did not.
