- Abstract
Objective: To explore the characteristics of macular choroidal neovascularization (CNV) of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients. Methods: 41 AMD patients (41 eyes) diagnosed CNV was detected by fluorescent fundus angiography (FFA) and optical coherent tomography (OCT). The image inspection results was compared and analyzed. Results: 29 eyes with typical CNV were found by FFA which showed high fluorescence area with clearly boundary was detected at early stage in macula and was expanded and enhanced at late stage; 10 eyes with occult CNV were found by FFA which showed high fluorescence area with less clear boundary at early stage in macula, and the fluorescein leaked or stained with usually unclear boundary at late stage. OCT found 33 eyes were typical CNV which was located in subretinal neuroepithelium with clear boundary spindle or round strong reflection, 8 eyes were occult CNV, which showed irregular enhanced reflection signal at retinal pigment epithelium. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) between two methods to detect macular CNV. Conclusions: FFA and OCT morphological characteristics of AMD patients are closely related, combined FFA and OCT image features of AMD patients with macular CNV can help contribute to clarify the nature of the lesion, which can offer help for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
