Body mass index and obesity in children with cerebral palsy.
- Authors
Stevenson, Richard D.
- Abstract
The article discusses findings of a study on body mass index and obesity in children with cerebral palsy. It states that BMI is only a moderately sensitive and specific indicator of excess fatness in typically developing children with high BMI, and mentions advantages of skinfold thickness measurement which directly assesses body fatnes. It notes that bioelectric impedance and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry as validated options for diagnosis.
