- Abstract
The present article aims to contribute to the debate and action towards the elimination of racism in Latin America and promote more just and egalitarian societies by examining the various forms of racism in the region from the perspective of indigenous and Afro-descendant people. The article, based on an action composed of three virtual events developed in 2020, begins by analyzing the deep-rooted causes of racism in Latin America based on Dr. Karina Ochoa's webinar, including the influence of colonialism and the legacy of slavery and oppression. Next, a dialogue held with university students, graduates and teachers from different countries in the region is systematized, summarizing their experiences regarding access to higher education, discrimination suffered in administrative and academic processes, inclusion in the job market, and access to postgraduate studies. Finally, in a propositional way, Service-Learning projects that aim to combat racism and discrimination are analyzed, proposing broad and plural frameworks of understanding. It is concluded that the proposal had a great impact on universities that explored how digital technologies can be used to increase the visibility of marginalized communities, reducing discrimination, generating and providing educational materials on the subject.
