- Abstract
The article examines the impact of coal mining, as an example of privatization, in Appalachian region, on the environment and the quality of life of residents. It states that privatization in Appalachia and the U.S. undermine the preservation of the natural resources in the region for future generations. It emphasizes to the moral right of all human beings to benefit from such resources. Forms of democratic management are needed to transcend private property rights in the region.
