- Abstract
The article presents a case report of contact hypersensitivity to a new isothiazolinone. Isothiazolinones are widely used as biocides in a variety of industrial settings and some are also used as preservatives in cosmetics, toiletries and topical rnedicaments. A 27-year-old non-atopic female laboratory technician presented with a 10-month history of patchy eczema of both palms. Patch testing was carried out with the European standard series and diluted preparations of the biocides. This is the first report of hypersensitivity to 2-methyl-4,5-trimethylene-4-isothiazolin-3-one, a recently developed isothiazolinone biocide.
