- Abstract
The article presents information on myrrh which is the putative allergen in bonesetter's herbs dermatitis. In Hong Kong, allergic contact dermatitis due to herbs used by bonesetters in treating musculoskeletal injury is the commonest cause of contact dermatitis around joints. Myrrh is a gum resin from the stem of Commiphora molmol Englar. In western medicine, it is used in mouthwashes and gargles for oral ulceration and internally as a carminative. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is used extensively in medication for traumatic injuries to relieve pain, swelling and bruises.
