- Abstract
"The Last Called Mormon Colonization: Polygamy, Kinship, and Wealth in Wyoming's Bighorn Basin" by John Gary Maxwell explores the history of Mormon settlements in Wyoming's Bighorn Basin. The book focuses on the last colonization mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by Apostle Abraham Owen Woodruff in 1900. Maxwell argues that this mission was intended to preserve plural marriage, despite the church's public denials of practicing polygamy. The book also examines the challenges faced by the Mormon settlers in establishing their communities and the eventual decline of post-Manifesto polygamy within the mainstream church.
