- Abstract
This article discusses the difficulty that dietitians and nutritionists have in conveying accurate nutrition information in the face of increasing research and changing dietary ideas and practices. The public frequently becomes confused by conflicting information and nutrition changes. The relationship between diet and disease is becoming more evident and more complex. The dairy food group is a good example of this complex relationship. In the early part of the twentieth century, people were encouraged to eat foods such as milk, cheese, eggs and vegetables to prevent nutritional deficiencies. Later in the century, links to cardiovascular diseases and other noncommunicable diseases were found with such a diet.
