- Abstract
The diagnosis of leishmaniasis based on histopathological evaluation occurs in 16%-74%.3 Even molecular techniques such as PCR could have false negative results in 53% of chronic lesions.4 Our first case could be considered as an example of false negative results of PCR in diagnosing leishmaniasis. According to the patient's residential area which is an endemic site for CL and the fact that leishmaniasis can manifest as a caseating granuloma in the biopsy,2 despite the negative results of direct smear and PCR of finger lesion, the empirical treatment with daily intramuscular injection of glucantime was initiated. Dear Editor, Leishmaniasis is a protozoal infectious disease divided into three categories: cutaneous, mucosal, and visceral leishmaniasis.1 Iran is one of the endemic countries for cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL).
