- Abstract
The objective of this research is to reflect upon the phenomenon of moral harassment in the context of the organization with the highest incidence of legal lawsuits on moral harassment in João Pessoa, in the period between 2008 and 2012. A qualitative approach was chosen and the research was held in two stages: one of documentary character and another of primary character. In the first, the incidence of labor lawsuits related to moral harassment in the region of João Pessoa, 1st degree instance of Paraíba State was investigated, eight lawsuits filed against seven companies, one of them recurrent, were found. It was verified that in two of the eight lawsuits the request for compensation for moral damages by reason of harassment was judged unfounded. It was further observed that the majority of employees who filled the lawsuits had management occupations, and the extraordinary and stressful labor environment added to the physical and mental exhaustion were the most referred reasons in the demands. In the step of primary character, in its turn, the recurrent company was focused on and a questionnaire was applied to the Care Manager to learn about the organizational practices and enable the identification of corrective and preventive measures adopted. The data collected indicate that most of the measures adopted were related to the management of people, but what has endangered the mitigation of moral harassment is a predominantly teleological conception of the area.
