- Abstract
Research focuses on understanding the place of this "Congada" within the Catholic Church, since it was born and raised from its shadow, strongly marked with the devotional elements of the Church interacting with elements of African religion and customs. The cut-off time considered in this study has as reference the first Coronation of negroe Kings in Recife in 1674. On one hand is used as an instrument of control by the dominant classes on the otherhand it is seen by the dominated as a possibility to recreate its Africa in the new Earth. Coming to the province of Minas Gerais in 1711, which highlights the emergence of the Brotherhoods of the Rosary as organization of negroe, phenomenon that lasts until the 19th century. Vila Rica today Ouro Preto, the phenomenon of "Congada" spreads in Mineiro territory where we will see in Jequitibá the register of a Brotherhood dated 1874. The Church in Brazil, in the process of Romanization considers as religious ignorance the expressions and popular organizations showing them restrictions and control by the ecclesiastical hierarchy. This prohibition of Rosary brotherhood Festival goes through all Mineiro territory as decision of Bishops of the province of Minas Gerais. The creation of the diocese approximates the regulatory power of popular organizations, generating conflicts, tensions, prohibitions and resistance. This can be seen in the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte regarding Divinópolis and in the Diocese of Sete Lagoas regarding Jequitibá, MG. The Conflicts allow us to realize the "Congada"convenience or not within the Church when the door of the church opens or closes for congadeiros according to the convenience. The ecclesiastical sectors from the Concílio Ecumenical 1962-1965 and post Vatican II documents are rehearsing a new look from the conversion and recognition of the values present in the culture and in the people religious expressions seen as Gospel holding values. The revisiting of the "Congada" inserted in the context of expressions of popular religion does not constitute an folkloric acquits of culture and history, but a profound expression of life of its members
