- Abstract
Scald, caused by Rhynchosporium secalis, is an important pathogen of barley. To identify resistant lines, suitable inoculum concentrations are necessary to obtain reliable results in seedling tests. We have determined the optimum spore concentration for seedling tests on three Turkish barley cultivars. Six different spore concentrations of four isolates of the fungus were used in tests on three different barley cultivars. An inoculum of 0.5 × 106 spores/ml were found to be the most suitable spore concentration for seedling resistance studies.
