- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined the ability of surgical trainees to diagnose perforated appendicitis by computed tomography (CT) scan. The Fisher's exact test was used to compare the ability of residents and radiologists to accurately identify appendicitis. Also discussed are residents' and radiologists' accuracy in identifying appendicitis, importance of standardized formal training and other imaging modalities that can be used to assess competency.
