- Abstract
Photochemical processes are the basis of life on Earth. In current research, sunlight is increasingly being used to produce "green" hydrogen. For this purpose, photosystems are being developed that should work as efficiently and durably as possible. An innovative method for increasing performance is the incorporation of such photosystems into so‐called liposome nanoreactors. Through spatial proximity, locally high concentrations of reactants can be formed and performance, lifespan, and efficiency can be significantly increased. The presented experimental series builds on current scientific research in the field of photochemistry and develops the central principle for use in schools and student laboratories. For this purpose, a photochemical system consisting of Eosin Y and NADH is enclosed in liposome nanoreactors consisting of lecithin, and the performance is compared to a system without nanoreactors. Already after 5 minutes of exposure time, the system shows a significantly better performance, which is even comparable to the model from research.
