Abstract
The authors discuss a comprehensive analysis of price and non-price competitiveness that accounts for changes in the value added content of trade. The authors mention that advanced economies lost non-price competitiveness relative to emerging economies over the period 1995 to 2011. Topics discussed include the relative quality of production in developed countries, tracing value added in exports, and gains in Chinese non-price competitiveness.
