- Authors
McGrath, Charles Ivar
- Abstract
This article presents the history of Poynings' Law, passed in 1494 and named after Sir Edward Poynings. The law established the basic foundation of an Irish constitution and redefined the relationship between Ireland and England. Essentially, the law forced Ireland to be granted permission from England prior to convening Irish parliament. After the Glorious Revolution the law was reinterpreted.
