The article comments on the paradigm wars in qualitative evidence synthesis redundant and Bergdahl's critique the meta‐aggregative approach. Topics discussed include development of new understandings and the refinement or clarification of existing standards; historical roots of meta‐ethnography lie within the social sciences; and adoption of a pragmatist perspective for meta‐aggregation compatible with the epistemological, philosophical and ethical traditions of qualitative research.
