- Title
ARCHITECTURE AND IMPERIALISM IN SIXTEENTH-CENTURY SPANISH AMERICA.
- Authors
Fraser, Valerie
- Abstract
The article presents information on imperialism and architecture in sixteenth century Spanish America. In the beginning of the century, the Spaniards imposed a whole new order on the peoples and territories they conquered in America. It was a new political, economic and spiritual order which was perceived by the conquerors as essentially different from native traditions. Perhaps it was in religious architecture that the imposition of the new order was most immediately, most dramatically and most visibly evident to both conquerors and conquered alike.
