- Authors
ISAACS, KAREN; MEYER, ALBERT; FLAKE, DONNA
- Abstract
The article cites several randomized controlled trials which revealed that corticosteroids given as early adjunctive anti-pneumocystis pneumonia therapy in patients with HIV infection decrease mortality at one month confidence interval and at three to four months. No other significant increases in opportunistic conditions or adverse effects were observed in patients receiving corticosteroids. It notes the guidelines of several U.S. health agencies and associations on the use of corticosteroids.
