- Title
ONLINE THREATS TO SENIOR SAFETY: THE DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER MEDICAL MARKETPLACE AND EELDER ABUSE.
- Authors
Lovett, Kimberly M.; Mackey, Timothy K.
- Abstract
The article discusses concerns relating to the increased risk of reduced mobility, low fixed incomes, and polypharmacy to senior population due to the rapidly growing online direct-to-consumer (DTC) medical marketplace, also termed as "eElder abuse" in the U.S. It informs that the U.S. national prevention and health promotion strategy has fostered seniors to acquire preventive screening and proactive medical care under the U.S. Affordable Care Act (ACA). It recommends that eElder abuse laws must object online drug marketing and advertising of medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs or products that causes both physical and financial harm to seniors.
