- Abstract
We thank Drs Van Calster et al for their comments regarding our article, but we respectfully disagree with their opinion that limitations in our methodology make it "premature to recommend this model." Our study is the first of these - a model development study - and it meets virtually all 31 of the TRIPOD checklist items or subitems for development studies.1 Perhaps it would have been better if we had referred to the TRIPOD guidelines in our article, but we note that Dr Van Calster is the joint first author of an article involving a logistic regression analysis2 that similarly did not mention the TRIPOD guidelines, despite being published more than 1 year after those guidelines appeared in print. In fact, the TRIPOD guidelines state that a prediction model study may address any one of the following: development of a new prediction model, model validation, or a combination of these two.
