- Abstract
An editorial is presented on the pneumococcal vaccines for adults has been marked by substantial controversy and uncertainty. Topics inlcude the vaccine has developed in the early 1900s by Sir Almroth Wright for gold miners in South Africa, the mortality rate for adults with invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) has remained high despite early treatment with antimicrobials, and the protein-polysaccharide conjugate vaccine has approved and recommended for routine use in infants.
