- Title
A sugar switch for anti-inflammatory antibodies.
- Authors
Jefferis, Roy
- Abstract
The author reflects on the findings of a research, which shows that antibody sialylation can suppress inflammation, thereby, provides new opportunities for drug development. In his view, the utility of sialylation for optimizing cytotoxic recombinant monoclonal antibodies, such as those used for cancer therapies, is less certain. Moreover, the author believes that achieving a structural understanding of how terminal sialylation controls binding to FcyRs remains challenging.
