- Abstract
The article identifies a homeobox protein Prx1 as a regulator of osterix (Osx) expression and mediator of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α action in osteoblast differentiation. The researchers identified proteins binding the TNF-suppressor element of the Osx promoter, and explains how TNF-α regulates Prx expression, and how Prx1 mediates TNF-α inhibition of Osx transcription. Results suggest the potential of TNF activation of Prx1 to contribute to the reduction of bone formation in inflammatory arthritis, menopause and aging.
