- Abstract
This article explores the use of proton therapy in cancer treatment and its connection to physics and medicine. The author was inspired by a visit to CERN, where they learned about the technology behind proton production and its application in oncology. The article discusses how proton therapy has improved the success of cancer treatments and the collaboration between physics and medicine. It also mentions the potential of proton therapy in veterinary medicine. However, it notes that proton therapy is not yet available in Slovenia. Proton therapy is an advanced method of cancer treatment that offers precise targeting of tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. It is commonly used in human medicine and is increasingly important in veterinary medicine, particularly for treating cancer in dogs. Proton therapy has been shown to extend the survival time of dogs with cancer compared to traditional radiation therapy. Preclinical studies, which involve research on laboratory animals and cell models, are crucial for understanding and improving proton therapy. These studies help develop more effective methods of delivering proton beams and address unresolved issues in proton therapy. Overall, proton therapy shows promise for significant advancements in cancer treatment for both humans and animals.
