- Abstract
Introduction: Empty nose syndrome (ENS) is a clinical entity without consensual definition; it is a recognized rare complication usually caused by aggressive surgical reduction of the turbinate mucosal tissue from the nasal cavity. But it can also develop after extensive and usually recurrent sinus surgery. Objective: To report a rare case of ENS secondary to endoscopic sinus surgery. Case Summary: A 37-year-old female who developed ENS after recurrent endoscopic sinus surgery. The important aspect of this case is the rare occurrence of ENS following endoscopic sinus surgery. Conclusion: Pathophysiology remains unclear, but probably involves disorder caused by excessive removal of nasal mucous membrane affecting neurosensitive receptors and inhaled air humidification and conditioning functions. The management remained problematic.
