Menno Simons on the Lord's Supper.
- Authors
Grislis, Egil
- Abstract
The article offers insights related to Menno Simons' interpretation of the Lord's Supper. It notes that Simons asserted the Lord Supper as a memorial of Christ's atonement and stressed the spiritual presence of Christ in the believer's heart through faith. Simons believed that the experience of the spiritual presence of Christ is the union of love and faith through action. Furthermore, the traditional insights of the Lord's Supper in which Simons considered as erroneous such as the idea of the Eucharist as a sacrifice, transubstantiation, and withholding of the cup from the lay people are also provided.
