- Abstract
This article explores the topic of transforming underused golf courses into housing developments in California. It discusses the protection of golf courses through conservation easements and argues that these easements are not appropriate for golf courses, as they are artificial and harmful to the environment. The article suggests that terminating these easements would allow for housing development to address California's housing shortage. It also raises concerns about the long-term implications of perpetual conservation easements and proposes steps that the California Legislature and the courts can take to enable the termination of these easements. Overall, the article highlights the need to balance environmental conservation with the pressing need for housing development.
