- Abstract
The article focuses on the life of Isaiah West Taber as a photographer. It notes that Taber studied photography in New England and eventually became the chief operator in the Bradley & Rulofson Photography Gallery in California. He then established the "Taber Gallery," his own gallery, in 1871 at Montgomery Street, San Francisco, a location which is accessible to people from any part of the city. His collection includes the negatives of the scenes from Mexico to Alaska. His large collection was destroyed in fire of 1906 including photographs of many U.S presidents, famous foreign visitors, army officers and pioneer California residents.
