- Abstract
The article discusses the role of medieval cathedrals in late 18th- and early 19th-century Gothic Revival architecture in England. The author suggests that medieval cathedrals formed the architectural heritage and national identity of late Georgian England. Other topics addressed include the role of cathedrals in establishing the English church as an heir to Christianity, responses to Gothic architecture in the late Georgian period, antiquarian literature from the late Georgian period by authors including John Carter.
