- Title
THE BOSTON EDITION OF THE BASKETT BIBLE.
- Authors
NICHOLS, CHARLES L.
- Abstract
The article focuses on whether a rare book described in the 1810 American bibliography "History of Printing in America," by Isaiah Thomas actually exists. Thomas asserted in his book that Boston, Massachusetts printing company Kneeland & Green published the first American edition of the Bible circa 1752 for bookseller D. Henchman and imprinted their quarto edition "Mark Baskett" and "London" to circumvent British laws regarding the authorization of Bible versions. The author also considers Bibles known to have been printed in Great Britain, focusing particularly on Bibles printed by Mark Baskett of Oxford and London, England in the mid-eighteenth century.
