- Abstract
This article provides a summary and commentary on a Cochrane Review titled "Musical and vocal interventions to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for preterm infants." The review aimed to assess the effectiveness of musical and vocal interventions in improving physiological and neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants born preterm. The authors reviewed 121 studies and included 25 clinical trials involving 1532 infants and 691 parents. The results showed that musical and vocal interventions did not significantly improve oxygen saturation or respiratory rate in infants born preterm. However, these interventions were found to reduce heart rate, although the clinical relevance of this finding is unclear. The authors concluded that more research is needed to establish definitive conclusions and enhance the clinical applicability of these interventions.
