- Abstract
A series of institutional reforms in the Francoist regime by early 1960s encouraged the rise of the Catalan translation, after more than twenty years of prohibition. Some publishers immediately contracted the rights of foreign works and incorporated them in their catalogues. The Naked and the Dead, by Norman Mailer, became part of the Edicions 62 publisher's collection "El Balancí". This an example of the difficulties that publishers had to face at that time, despite the incipient opening of the regime. This article analyses the mechanisms that operated the gears of the censorship, as well as the criteria applied by the Francoist authorities to impose the censorship on the translation and the techniques used by the translator in order to avoid it.
