- Abstract
This article examines concepts of beauty in contemporary literature, specifically "On Beauty," by Zadie Smith and "Saturday," by Ian McEwan. The author contends that both books assert the primacy of beauty as a way to interpret reality. The novels are compared to philosophical essays by writers Elaine Scarry and Denis Donoghue.
