- Abstract
A critique is presented of 19th century American poems such as the sonnet "To Science" by Edgar Allan Poe, "The last night that she lived" by Emily Dickinson, and "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman, contrasting the poems with British poetry, which was presented as a lecture at the Catholic University of America in October 1999.
