- Title
WAS JOHN DEE 'THE ORIGINAL 007'?
- Authors
BIRKWOOD, KATHERINE
- Abstract
The article argues that assertions made that English mathematician, astrologer, and antiquary John Dee signed letters addressed to Queen Elizabeth I as "007" are false. The account was forwarded in the 1968 book "John Dee: Scientist, Geographer, Astrologer and Secret Agent to Elizabeth I," by Richard Deacon. An overview of the five extant letters written by Dee to Elizabeth & her court is presented.
